Oregon Sea Grant and OSU have published a guide for homeowners and professionals for rain gardens. The Guidebook covers locating, installing, maintaining, and plant selection for rain gardens. It is a great introduction for anyone interested in rain gardens or bioretention systems.

Not too long ago I finished up the book "The Resilient Farm and Homestead: An Innovative Permaculture and Whole Systems Approach" by permaculture designer Ben Falk. The book covers design philosophies and techniques for implementing permaculture on a property, and uses his farm for several examples. One of the more unique systems on his farm are the rice paddies and their part in the farms stormwater management program. This particular systems provides a way of handling rainwater onsite, irrigating crops during drought, capturing/building fertility in the soil, and mitigating erosion all while providing a yield of rice.
